The Comforting Hand of God
- people respond to difficulties in different ways, some get angry, some act cool (act like nothing happened to them), some are disillusioned(which means they decide to give up)

- King David's story: King Saul wanted to kill him, but David always seek God and despite many attempts, David was not killed and God helped him :D please refer to [1 Samuel 18]onwards to know...

[Psalms 34:4-7]

1. God listens to us (v4, 6a)

- God always hear David, God always respond to David :D

- [Psalms 18:6]

- sometimes when we talk to friends, we wonder whether they are actually listening to us, when people don't listen to us, we don't feel good :(... we feel good when people listen to us :D

- however, most people do not listen well as they get easily distracted, our minds will always wander around when people talk to us, we don't listen properly and cannot possibly absorb everything.

- in the bible, there are also many instances that God reminded people to listen to Him, He knows that we need to get reminded to remember what He says :)

[Revelation 2:29]

- isn't it comforting to know that God listens to everyone 100% all the time? :D

- God listens to our fears, doubts, anger, disappointment, and also of course our joy :D

- (random part) nowadays girls want SNAGs (sensitive new age guys), but we have a SAAG (sensitive all age God!)

- God will not say "Sorry child, what did you say just now? I was listening to what my angels are telling me"... because He always listen to us :D He understands us the BEST. plus, He is all time available for us :D

- God has been waiting for you (whoever who is reading heheh), He wants to listen to YOUR voice (especially to those who never talk to God for a long time)

2.God protects us from shame (v5) - note: for those who walk in His ways

Shame: Hapar (which means ashamed and humiliated)

[Isaiah 54:4-5]

[Romans 10:11]

- There is great security when we live in God's ways

- some worldly ppl might want to shame christians living a Godly life, so that they will feel good about themselves, but dont be ashamed :) we don't need to be afraid cos we did not do anything wrong :)

- some people are struggling with shame, but God can save us from that

[Isaiah 1:18] God can wipe clean your past and give you a new beginning!

- Jesus already died for us on the cross to save us from all the future shame, He was humiliated by many people on the cross :(

3. God delivers us from our troubles (v6-7)

- God allows some troubles/problems in our lives so that we get closer to Him :D

- sometimes He allows the problem so remain in our lives so that we will be kept humble, and we can experience His grace, and also to learn something out of it

- [2 Corinthians 12:7-10]

- the problems will always benefit you (He will help you), only when we turn to Him.

- big or mini troubles, God will help you in all

- also, God can deliver us from a problem quietly or dramatically. He can speak in a small, still voice, but also can speak audibly :D

- even though its mini problem, He helped us too, we must be grateful for that :D

- God is a God that can deliver people from their troubles, transform people

- physical sickness and emotional pain both can be healed by God :D

- God is powerful, He is alot more powerful than our problems

- if we think that God is weak, our life will show it that way, because we do not believe that our God is strong, thus we will not think that He can solve our problems too. however, we need to challenge ourselves to what we believe in, we need to believe that God is stronger than our problems.

- What do you really believe in? your problem? your emotions?

- even Sarah can conceive a child at such an old age, what problem can God nt solve?

- [Genesis 18:14a]

- ask yourself! is anything too hard for God?

- God is not defined by our feelings, our problem, but by the Word

- We need to learn to see God as He is, not as we feel, your God is a BIG God

- Nothing is too big for God to handle

- Also, nothing is too small for God to be interested in

- God knows the exact no. of hair on our head, He cares about details, about small things, small problems

- it is easier to learn to trust God in big problems if we normally trust Him when solving small problems :D

- David knew that he cannot do it alone :) and keep seeking God, and God helped him everytime

- do you think you can handle every of your problem by yourself?

- we may not last during touch times, life is always beyond our control (eg. financial crisis now), but our God is our confidence :D

- Even in the midst of tough times, we'll thrive and bear fruits :D!

Fasting

What is it?
- Fasting is a christian’s voluntary abstinence from food (not eating) for spiritual purposes. It is denying my self, not only my own body, but also my own wants. It is a way of saying that food and my natural desires are secondary to something else.
- [1 Peter 2:11]
- it is also feasting on the WOG, and spending time to pray. It must have a spiritual purpose otherwise it will dieting.

Firstly, why God give us food?
1. Enjoyment -- God gave us such a wide variety of eatable types of food, so that man would enjoy eating. Food is meant to be a source of joy (Ecclesiastes 2:24-25; 5:18).

2. Sustenance -- Adam needed food to sustain his life and give him energy to do the tasks God had assigned him. Plants were given to Adam and Eve for this purpose: Genesis 1:30. animals too: Genesis 9:3. Both are nourishment tt God provided.

3. Fellowship -- Through the Old Testament the people of God came together for fellowship over food. Don’t you realize that the dining table was one of the few times that we were all together as a family? Families find a resource of love, fellowship, discussion, and understanding when they come together to eat. The meal became a focal point for conversation, communication, discussion and teaching in our household. Food was made by God to bring us together.Worship -- Food also is a source of worship. Food is a gift from God (Matthew 6:11 & 1 Timothy 4:3b-4). Paul says that every bit of food "should be received with thanksgiving". When we eat, our natural reaction should be Godward gratitude. According to the Bible food was created to be a source of thanksgiving and worship.

Why fast?
1. It is an expression of wholeheartedness.
(Joel 2:12). Fasting helps to deepen and confirm the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything - even ourselves - to attain what we seek for the kingdom of God. It humbles us infront of God, pleases Him.

2. To strengthen our prayers.
When we fast during times of intensive prayer, God will give us the strength and focus to keep praying till we see our prayers answered. Often this means putting aside the fulfillment of our physical appetites, so that we can focus our attention on Him + what we prayed for. Eg. Praying for the sick ppl to be healed.

3. To seeks God’s guidance
When we need God to reveal his direction and guidance for specific situations or important decisions in our lives. If we expect God to reveal it, we must put Him first. [Judges 20:26-28]

4. To seek God’s protection and deliverance
There are occasions when death or danger threaten us. We see from the Scripture that it is certainly appropriate to employ fasting as a means of receiving God's protection during these times. When Ezra was carrying a large amt of gold and silver to along a route infested with bandits, he fasted for protection (Ezra 8:21-31).

5. To express repentance and return to God.
Eg When people wished to demonstrate that they were serious about repenting from their sin, they fasted.

[Joel 2:12] (same verse)

6. To overcome temptation
[Matthew 4:1-11]
Fix your eyes on God when you are fasting, cos you’ll surely be tempted to eat food!!! Keep praying to God everytime when you feel tempted(hungry for food in this case?) Resist the devil and temptation! If u can overcome temptation, u can overcome sin!

7. To express love and worship to God
God is pleased with people who fast and pray to Him. it is obedience to God!

Fasting has many spiritual benefits! Some ppl fast for 40 days, 3 days, 1 day… you can choose how long you want to fast! You can also fast from things u like, like chocolate, tv. Not something you don’t like! pray during your mealtimes! It is also recommended that you fast regularly so tt u can have a more prayerful life!

hahah its like a zillion years since ive updated!
after so much procrastination and procrastination, tsk.
hoho so back again, had the sudden urge to update and yes
stir up some form of revival here!:D

just had fruitful time w God,
and found that i really enjoy spending time just alone with Him:)
had many things in mind, but somehow just kept going back
to this point about giving and receiving.
was thinking abt whether it actually takes more humility to give, than to receive.
duno why, but usually always thought it took more to give than to take.
it just struck me
that actually being on the giving end, doesn mean that i have to have
greater humility than if i am the one who's on the receiving end.
by receiving it takes a lot more, personally for me..
sometimes i tend to be
v si ban and rigid abt certain things,
then even when God wants to say something,
maybe because of insecurity or even pride,
i just close doors,
refuse to slow down to listen.:/

really want to thank You
for being so patient with me, even though at times
when i m being irritating and all.
thank You for loving me and honouring me,

Our end-of-year exams period is here and most of us are gone and disappearing from cyberworld till it ends (which is 9/ 10 oct)

We all want to do our very best and study hard to honour God in this area of our lives:)
and be blessings to other people during this period.

here to share about ytd's service/sermon. Don't you guys think it was AWESOME?? :D YAYS!

the sermon was about the Power of Praise and worship and I really learnt loads. sermon and i clicked well for a few reasons!

1)I love praise and worhsip!
when ppl talk about things that you love of course click la! hahaha. and as usual, I too started off liking the music-just wanna be there as a listener of nicenice concert-ish music (FOC somemore ehXD)and feeling awkward with ppl raising hands and speaking in togues and all. But of course that changed! learnt how much much BETTER it is to soak in God's presence in the atmosphere of worship :)AND just going CRAZY in jumping and praising God!

P.S if you haven't experienced what is the realreal power of praise and worship, start by reflecting on how close the lyrics can be to your heart :)

2)Click-ing incidents mentioned in sermon itself!
Pastor Shirley mentioned about how the song 'shepherd of my soul' came to her. and just at the point of time I rmb that THAT was the song that refreshed me last sun! WOOTS :D
and during the sermon the line "I could sing of your love forever" was stuck in my brain and she mentioned it too!

hahah how cool is that. really amazing :D

3)I have experienced an incident on how a worship song really came at the right time and revived me :)
remembered in halfway in the sermon.
I remember at that time our math teacher left early I think, and she left us with a couple of math questions. Then I was stressing over the questions ON TOP OF feeling ultra tired and lethargic like i can just plop on the table and fall asleep. :( That was when my friend who was beside me listening to her ipod offered one ear phone :) and the song 'Mighty to save' was playing!

WOAHH. I was instantly much more charged up! much much more than more coffee or caffiene can do :). concidently, thats the song featured in this blogskin.

i wish i had the song, then can send to you all.

heheh. anw shall jus blog abt some thoughts i have.

1) as i woke up this morning, a single, fleeting silent thought came into my mind that said: hey Calean go spend time w God now esp cos no one is at home! :) so i was like okay haobao, but but but. then came a whole WHIRL of thoughts.

"Calean ah! ni haven finish your hist transcript! you know how long tt takes! you need to start NOW"

"Calean! just spend time with God later. do your homwork first"
etc etc

really whirl of thoughts lor :/

wonder if you all faced that too. but hey i guess that is how stupid satan works lah. Gos whispers but Satan screams like nobody's business.
God whispers like a soft advice from a close friend, a reminder,nudge
Satna screams to make you feel guilty, to make you feel useless and to distract you from God's whisper cos He's logic is that screaming overpowers the whisper.

conclusion: choose to LISTEN to God's whisper :) if you think that how come i cant feel God then think again. the first soft whisper that comes to you before it gets bombarded by Mr s.a tan.
and don't just listen, obey!

2) divine encounters with God
God is always there. and He longs to share every moment of our life. imagine a friend always by your side and constantly being daoed. then lo and behold only on every sat or maybe cg and qt then we choose to acknowlege his presence.
-relationship is intentional not accidental

if im not wrong this word first came to me again last week when i was on the podium before morn commands :P. forgot. gt reminded agn.

hellos to my dear caregroup!

as I've sms-ed you all. I decided to make use of this blog by blogging about the happenings and focuses for the week. :)

okay firstly, reality check. this two weeks will be pretty hectic for all of us! cos TESTS ARE HERE. hehehs. this two weeks I.F is also coming up!!!!

AND, nanyang 10 is also two weeks away. :) stress mah?

hmm. some things to think abt (for ppl who want to serve God):
Do we really want to see us hitting NANYANG 10? and WHY do you want to see nanyang 10?
considering the fact that thats means we have to start being consistent with all that we have now. our contacts. friends to sow on. qt. own spiritual health.sheeps. ON TOP OF tests,homework,cca and you name it! we are busy people.

BUT if you are convinced that this GOD we have is AWESOME.. and thing is He simply is :). then all these should come naturally! I'm always looking back to count the blessings I had in my life ever since I've decided to serve Him. may be ppl around me, in sch work or cca, or even probs given for us to overcome.

and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. [Romans 8:28}

there. God declares it.
1) He love us! (these are still like tons of verses i the bible that says so)
2) He always wants the best for us
3) He will bless/protect/honour those who choose to serve Him

so now do you guys really to win Nanyang 10 for God? its probably the very first so-call little great commisson we are really embarking on this year as a caregroup. God wants the world, dun forget that :) and we still have cg08.

we are really the chosen people. its a great honour to serve God with all of you and I know it is always part of God's plan that we are tgt here as a cg!

I've tons to work on too. Compassion for people. Faith thru actions. and making outreach a momentum till it becomes part of our life.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up [Galatians 6:9]

we always do what we value. so i pray that we will all value lives. impacting lives is a difficult job, SO if guys have anything to complain about. Go to God or you all can always contact me. hees. I will help u contact God.

haha jiayou everybody out there! along the week, many commitments and distractions will be coming our way. And sometimes, we will just get caught up in the moment and forget that God can see the bigger picture :D yay so let's all depend on Him for strength amidst all the homeworks, sias, cca and all stuff! yay just rmb that when we are working for His kingdom, He will never shortchange us, in fact He will bless us in abundance!

do we do this only at the spur of the moment?when all the emotions start stirring in your heart? so so so impt to know that when you ask to be used,
its natural to expect that mountains will come, failures rejection discouragements.

all will come, and they must come!if not how we grow rite?!

anw this week had been a fleeting week. meaning it passed so fast! until what happened on mon seems like it happened weeks ago.

today's sermon was abt striving for excellence which I felt was for me! b4 tt actually I was doing qt on the mrt. yes, mrt. and its effective you know! :)can concentrate. nt the 1st time i did this but i know sometimes this can be even better than having qt at my hme. hahah. yep anw I was thinking on the mrt abt PGA. the sermon reminded me of my studies too. this few weeks I have been a little distracted from my work. SO HARD to concentrate! always do halfway that think of other things. sometimes can just stone in front of the comp for super long thinking of sth else when im supposed to do my work.

okay. i admit. supposed to be doing my work now but gt distracted again. ARGHH!
what pastor shirls talked about today really reminded me to go all out for whatever I do. IN EVERY ASPECT. meaning ministry, studies, guides, PGA etc. the thing now is to make effort to include God in all aspects, nt just ministry. :) hmm. nt easy man but I will try

hey! today when the announcement came up for parents day svc (12 may). the first people i thought of were both of you :) I know i cant really understand what is like to be in your shoes. the environment of being in a christian family is really diff. completely diff set of probs. but i do know this, God desires the salvation of not just you but your family! really really. I think you all know also. scary. many problems may result from this. but I want to encourage you to PUT ASIDE all these fears and focus on what God can do! jiayou k. The God who had the power to raise Christ from the dead is the same power that is working thru you to your family. :)

wahaha shall not reveal my identity so u all can GUESS!surprises are fun! u can read till the end n u will see a hint* im mysteryman. oh just watched the PRESTIGE last wk.. abt magicians. ok la but then d plot is so TWISTED half the time i duno wat is happening cos keep having sudden scene changes.:( but they used the FLASHBACK method. then the ending scene was the starting scene! quite cool rite! omgosh its 12am exactly and the NATIONAL ANTHEM is playing on tv..eh i didn know they will play it at 12am:D
OHYES choral and drama nite! still cant believe so fast over alrdy. happy and sad. but u noe alot of tings happened make me so jin3zhang1..cos i suddenly lost my dagger when its goin to be our turn to perform, then v panicky and ganchiong but lucky lucky found it in time:) and and! THANK GOD! hehe i prayed b4 goin on stage and when i was performing i didn get stage friht! WHOO! n i didn miss my lines! just tat my costume changes abit rushd. u noe i wore the right shoe to the left feet and the left feet to the right shoe! cos backstage superdark. lucky i found out b4 goin out la! but it reli went much better than expected.. n relirelireli thank GOD for evryting!

have been doing duty for consecutive 3 wks man.haha. and i must say it's the toughest 3 weeks.MM COMPS ARE GETTING SCREWED! SCREWD-ER! SCREWD-EST! haha. we need new replacement comps urgently. the quicktime player media player cant work last week and all of us nearly went bonkers!!!!!!!haha.oh anw. last week is the guy who saw my pink panther panty tag in charge of the MM grp! argh!!!!!so paiseh. but i just pretend that nth has happened and was just being myself, my demure self!:D everything was ok. then until the end of the sermon! he told me he smell sth smelly like some blood! argh!!!!!so i was just asking him for jiayi number when he just say ,'UR AUNTY COME IS IT?' WO DE ZHU(LORD) AH!roarrrrr.what an insensitive man. i was totally paiseh and embarrassed AGN.i think he is my ke4 xin1. next time do duty shall stay away from him as far as possible man. shooooooooo!
